About Us

History

The White Lodge Hotel began as a grand residence in 1856. The famous actress Dame Madge Kendal bought it in 1896 and the villa became a summer retreat for her and her husband for 40 years. In 1938, it was converted into a hotel named The White Lodge Hotel. It faced wartime struggles but later re-established itself as a luxury hotel.

Staying

The hotel has 20 en-suite rooms, all enjoying their own unique character born of the hotel’s former life as a grand Victorian Villa. Most rooms enjoy uninterrupted sea views, with others enjoying an outlook onto the grand Victorian crescent or the leafy Glen Gardens.

Dining

Our onsite restaurant boasts rave reviews and is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner for residents and non-residents. It proves a popular draw and booking is advisable.

Drinking

For those cosy evenings or when the weather draws in, our cosy bar and lounge provide ideal areas to relax in front of a fire and enjoy a handmade cocktail or two from our well stocked bar. When the weather allows, enjoy a large outside terrace with unbeatable views over the bay, with an outside bar to cater to all your food and beverage needs.

Events

The White Lodge provides a unique venue for your special event, with a private dining/entertaining space for your special event, or the possibility of hiring the entire venue for a grand event in the off season.

Filey

Filey is a hidden gem on the Yorkshire coast with miles of beaches and cliff walks to explore as well as being close to the better-known towns of Scarborough and Whitby. There are lots of local attractions to explore to ensure that you have a fun-filled trip if relaxing by the sea isn’t your thing.
